Good Press and Good Progress

 Hello PKP enthusiasts!

It has been a very eventful and encouraging month since I last touched base. The most significant news to share is, well, the news! The Pendleton King Park Restoration Initiative was featured on the front page of the Augusta Chronicle on Sunday, June 18th!!!


Journalist Miguel Legoas and I toured the Park a few weeks back and discussed the situation and what we are doing to stem the tide of the exotic invasion. He produced a terrific and well-rounded write-up that addressed the Park and the greater problem of exotic pest plants in the area, featuring our colleagues at Augusta University as well. I cannot be happier and more honored-thanks Miguel! Great work!

I'm so grateful for the visibility that this article has created. I have gotten lots of good feedback and am hopeful that the community continues to respond to our work in such a positive manner. It is truly important and rewarding work.

We finally got back together as the Ivy League on June 17th and made a ton of progress. A hearty group of five joined me to continue the assault, and we expanded this week to take on some woody invasives too (thanks to Anthony's supplies). Fueled by our concern for the park and Katie's famous chocolate chip sea salt cookies, we hammered a plot, clearing it of all visible invaders. It was a great and slightly humid morning that made for lots of good photo ops.











We are certainly making measurable progress and show no signs of letting up! Join us next time to continue the good work!
